RCMP RELEASE:
On June 14, 2024 just before midnight, the St. Paul RCMP were conducting proactive patrols when they conducted a traffic stop on a truck in the Town of St. Paul. Further investigation led police seizing of what is believed to be 72.6 grams of methamphetamine, 1.1 grams of cocaine, 5.8 grams of Fentanyl, $1,585 dollars in cash and a loaded sawed off shotgun which was beside the driver.
Jessie Cardinal (41), a resident of St. Paul, has been charged with 10 different counts, including:
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of a Firearm when Unauthorized
- Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Weapon
Cardinal was brought before a Justice of the Peace and released on $5000 cash bail with conditions to appear at Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul on June 27.
Owen Hunter (34), a resident of Saddle Lake Cree Nation, has been charged with 5 different counts, including:
- Possession of a Firearm when Unauthorized
- Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Weapon
- Obstruction of a Peace Officer
Hunter was brought before a Justice of the Peace and was released on conditions to appear at Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul on July 11.
“St. Paul RCMP officers continue to work very hard to take illegal drugs and firearms off our streets,” says Cpl. Stephen Cunningham with the St. Paul RCMP Detachment. “This seizure will have an impact in local drug trafficking and organized crime within our communities.”
